The Felicitous Prophet
“The Day is Now as Then”
And so the felicitous prophet went about his days,
at times brimming with frivolity,
at other times steeped in solemnity,
leaving the people unsure what to make of him,
and the angels to wonder.
But Jesus smiled, and a sparkle appeared in His eye.
From the highest cloud, a small heavenly creature of the third heaven
asked her sisters,
“Does this prophet bring a tear—or perhaps an apple—to God’s eye?”
The fallen ones did cringe,
and the devils fell further still:
“Oh, why does such a creature roam the earth?”
Death lamented,
“My scythe fails! I have struck him down these many times,
but life’s embrace brings him back.”
And from grace, the darkness did cower,
as it must before even the smallest spark of light.
And so the tortured prophet walks this earth,
lingering in light and love,
bearing pain and suffering seasoned with peace and joy.
Tomorrow is his gift,
comfort his reward,
and the Spirit his surety,
for communion is his eternity.
Glory belongs to the Lord,
for He brings trials and tribulations to form and fashion such wonders,
by His ineffable compassion and inexpressible beauty.
His Majesty permeates all Creation,
baptizing the weak and needy;
His Righteousness feeds the starving;
His Spirit quenches those dying of thirst.
Night shall flee at the rising of His Son,
the Eternal Day, victorious!
